CERTINA's eighth season as partner to the Sauber F1 Team

CERTINA is set to continue sponsoring the Sauber F1 Team in 2012. For seven years, the Swiss sports watchmaker has been partner to the Swiss Formula 1 team under Peter Sauber, which is based in Hinwil, Zurich. The CERTINA logo is emblazoned on the wind deflectors of the F1 race cars as well as on the helmet visors of the two drivers, Kamui Kobayashi and Sergio Pérez. As a premium partner, CERTINA is supplying not only the two drivers but also the entire race team with its sporty timepieces.

The Sauber F1 Team and CERTINA are set to continue their successful partnership through 2012. Having joined forces back in 2005, the Formula 1 racing team from Hinwil, Zurich, and the Swiss sports watchmaker can now look back on a successful partnership spanning seven years. Loyalty and continuity are important principles for both companies – which is why CERTINA is committed as a Premium Partner of the team for the coming season. Sauber, for its part, is pinning its hopes on its two team drivers, Kamui Kobayashi and Sergio Pérez, who competed last year for the F1 team, ending the season with a respectable 44 World Championship points. Both drivers will once again be displaying the CERTINA logo on their helmet visors this year. The CERTINA lettering is also clearly visible on the wind deflectors in front of the sidepods of the F1 race cars. In addition, the drivers and the entire team will this year, once again, be supplied with sporty timepieces from the Swiss watchmaker.

Fans can look forward to a thrilling F1 season in 2012, along with a number of technical changes. With immediate effect, engines must now be programmed to prevent "off-throttle blowing". This means that exhaust gases will no longer be blown out when the driver releases the accelerator, thus preventing the engine from artificially influencing the car's aerodynamic performance. Furthermore, there have been some Formula 1 rule changes. Lapped drivers will be allowed to re-overtake the safety car during a safety-car period, so that they are not positioned between the leaders at the restart. Drivers must also change how they tackle one-on-one situations. With immediate effect, only one lane change will be permitted in a direct duel. Also, overtaking in the pit lane is no longer permitted. Drivers will no longer be allowed to leave the track without a justifiable reason. This is intended to prevent drivers from deliberately cutting corners.

The partnership between the Sauber F1 Team and CERTINA is more than just a sponsorship deal. Precision, reliability and the pursuit of perfection are all values which define both companies. That is why CERTINA's long-standing involvement in motorsport and in this high-tech racing series is so important. The only F1 team with Swiss roots and the experience of team principal Peter Sauber and his crew is the perfect match for CERTINA.
